April 2024 Outing

Southlanders at Bluebell Woods
Southlanders at Bluebell Woods

Our April outing was to the Bluebell Woods at Arlington. We hired three scooters for those not able to walk the distance, but everyone else managed the half mile walk in lovely sunshine; the bluebells were at their best. Derek particularly liked his scooter and we didn’t see him only in passing as he just went round and round with his new toy! There were also a few animals, plant and book stalls, and a nice cafe to enjoy a coffee break. Then on to the Horse and Groom Harvester at Polegate for an excellent three course meal. All in all a lovely day out.

March 2023 Outing

On March 12th, after negotiating pouring rain and floods, we arrived at Coombs Farm where, in the barns it was nice and dry and saw various new born lambs and expectant mums.  We had a coffee break in the barn, then Julian took us the scenic way to the Toby at Worthing where we had an excellent meal.

February 2023 Outing

On 21st February we visited Rustington museum which was small but interesting and well presented in its new home. On to the Gravy Boat at Littlehampton for a superb meal. We are never disappointed here; service and food excellent and a good choice. Julie really enjoyed her mussels ! We did miss our walk by the river because of pouring rain all day.

October 2023 Outing

On October 10th we first went to Newhaven Fort which proved to be very interesting, and we all said we would like to return for a longer visit. Then on to the Drove Newhaven for a brilliant meal. We were so well looked after and the meal was exceptionally good value.

September 2023 Outing

19th SEPTEMBER
We went first to Stanmer Park to see the walled gardens, garden shop and the One Garden cafe for coffee. Then on to the Katrina Harvester at the Brighton Marina where we were served with a lovely meal on a pleasant table by the window.

August 23 Outing

WASHINGTON OLD VICARAGE GARDENS

Our August outing took us to The Old Vicarage Gardens Washington where we enjoyed a picnic for lunch.
Meryl the owner and her staff met us, then served us with coffee and delicious cakes in the conservatory, she then said “the gardens and conservatory are yours for as long as you want”.
We all went off to explore these lovely gardens and returned for a picnic. We finished the day off with an ice cream up at Devils Dyke.

July 2023 Outing

Our July outing was to Ferring Country Centre which has a restaurant, garden centre and small farm zoo which kept us occupied, also has a lot of horses for disabled riders. Then on to the Henty Arms for an excellent meal, and to finish off our day an ice cream on the sea front at Goring.

June 2023 Outing

On 6th June our monthly trip took us to Wings Aviation Museum, a Hanger in the middle of the countryside full of the most interesting Second World War memorabilia dedicated to all nationals who fought and died in this war. We were given a very interesting talk on arrival, learning a lot of useful information. The photos show some of the interesting items. This was followed by a lovely lunch at Wetherspoons, Burgess Hill. See Museum photo gallery below and video of the Anderson Shelter.
